The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, successfully hosted a workshop under the Erasmus+ project on "Curriculum Development for Zero Waste Management in the Hospitality and Tourism Sector" on April 2–3, 2026, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Kanapot Kalanaowakul.
The training aimed to strengthen sustainability teaching knowledge and skills among higher education instructors, combining theoretical frameworks with hands-on hotel audits across Phuket. Four new courses were introduced under the Tourism-Zero concept:
- 801-117 Responsible Consumption and the Impact of Waste on Global Warming
- 801-118 Zero Waste Management in Hospitality and Tourism Operations
- 801-119 Municipal Waste Management
- 801-120 Environmental Impact Assessment
Course 801-118 serves as the cornerstone of the curriculum, covering key topics such as food waste, plastic pollution, circular economy, and sustainable operations, with a strong emphasis on practical learning applicable to the industry.
The training also highlighted the importance of aligning course content with Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) to ensure that teaching approaches and assessment methods meet academic standards while responding to the real demands of the hospitality and tourism industry.
This project marks a significant step forward in advancing sustainability education and preparing the next generation of professionals for a future-ready, zero-waste tourism and hospitality industry.
